Technology readily available to students with disabilities is consistently increasing and improving, yet students’ access to systematic instruction from instructors is often limited to their time in school. To increase independence from instructors while still providing access to systematic instruction, educators should teach self-instructional skills early in a student’s career and embed opportunities to practice these skills throughout their schooling. This article overviews self-instruction using videos loaded on mobile devices as well as outlines considerations for educators when selecting mobile devices and designing video models for students with disabilities. In addition, a scenario applying self-instruction with mobile technology is included with a corresponding data sheet.
