The early concepts of giftedness are rooted in racism through a very narrowly defined vision of intelligence focusing on White affluent men of European descent (DuBois & Greene, 2021). Minoritized gifted children become underrepresented in the gifted program (Ford et al., 2020; Greenspon, 2022). However, these minoritized students, in particular from low-income households, are disproportionally overrepresented in special education programs (Peters, 2022). This trend begins at or before preschool (Chen et al., 2022). As a result, minoritized DLLs who are advanced learners...are more likely to receive ECSE services due to...“problems” instead of being recognized as an advanced learner in preacademic areas—twice exceptional (2e).
