This article discusses alignment between the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and secondary transition instruction. A brief overview of the history and current status of the CSSS is provided followed by two possible approaches for teachers to use when designing instruction including both CCSS and secondary transition skills. First, teachers can begin with the academic standard and extend into the transition skill, and second, teachers can begin with the transition skill and extend into the academic standard. Examples are provided along with two lesson plan starters.
