Lessons Learned

  • While estimates are imprecise and variable, research reports that 30 – 60% of children in foster care have a disability.
  • Children with disabilities in foster care face additional challenges such as continuity of care and schooling, as well as access to medical and related services.
  • Foster parents and caseworkers have little training on the needs of children with disabilities.
