IDEA Money Watch Estimates State Grants for IDEA by Program

Chart illustrating COVID-19 funding for education

IDEA Money Watch has published estimates for total Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 allocations following last week’s passage of the American Rescue Plan Act, which included roughly $3 billion in additional funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for FY 2021.

The supplemental appropriation to IDEA is divided into three separate programs, all of which increase the original amount of the FY 2021 appropriation by significant amounts. Part B Section 611 grants to sates will increase by 20%, Part B Section 619 grants to states for preschool children with disabilities will increase by 50%, and grants for infants and toddlers with disabilities under Part C will receive a 52% increase to the FY 2021 appropriation.

IDEA’s provisions regarding allowable use of funds under Part B & Part C will govern the spending of these funds. IDEA Money Watch has estimated the state grant totals by program.
