On Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) held the first of five monthly sessions focused on academic recovery from pandemic losses. The sessions will bring together experienced voices from research, policy, and practice to highlight strategies for student learning recovery in literacy and math achievement. The initial session laid the groundwork for learning recovery, showcasing state and district efforts to accelerate learning, evidence-based research practices, and a panel including a high school principal, teacher, student, and parent that focused on interventions. Future sessions will focus on research-based practices presented by content experts; promising practices from SEAs and districts; leveraging stimulus funding to implement literacy and math achievement best practices at scale; and offering dedicated time and expertise to support action planning.
