Department of Education Issues COVID-19 Handbook Volume 2
Today, the U.S. Department issued the second volume of its COVID-19 Handbook, Roadmap to Reopening Safely and Meeting All Students' Needs, building on the first volume, which focused on health and safety. Volume 2 provides additional strategies related to promoting educational equity and addressing the gaps that have been amplified due to the pandemic.
Included within the handbook are strategies for stabilizing and diversifying the educator workforce. Local strategies include resources on root causes and solutions for special educator staffing from the Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability, and Reform (CEEDAR) Center and ED’s Office of Special Education Programs’ resources related to attracting, preparing, and retaining educators who serve students with disabilities.
“This handbook is really a culmination of best practices and ideas that we know are going to help educators across the country continue their great work of safely reopening schools as quickly as possible,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said upon release of the handbook. “This plan has the fingerprints of educators across the country on it.”
