Administration Issues EO to Advance AI in Classrooms
On Wednesday, President Trump signed an Executive Order (EO) aiming to ensure the United States remains a global leader in AI by promoting early exposure to AI concepts, focusing on teacher training in AI, and aligning workforce development with emerging technologies.
Entitled "Advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) Education for American Youth," the order establishes a White House Task Force on AI Education to coordinate federal efforts and introduces the Presidential AI Challenge to recognize student and educator achievements. It encourages public-private partnerships to create AI learning resources, prioritizes AI-focused teacher training through federal grants, and supports the growth of AI-related Registered Apprenticeships. It also promotes dual enrollment programs for high school students to earn postsecondary AI credentials, all as part of a broader strategy to build an AI-ready workforce and foster innovation across the nation.
The EO recommends, “Educators, industry leaders, and employers who rely on an AI-skilled workforce should partner to create educational programs that equip students with essential AI skills and competencies across all learning pathways.”
