LCE 2.0 introduces significant advancements over its predecessor, LCE, by transitioning from static PDF or printed materials to a fully digital format that is accessible to both teachers and students, utilizing HTML and PDF. The number of lessons has substantially increased from approximately 100 to over 270, spanning three core domains: Community Living, Employment, and Postsecondary Education. A major enhancement in LCE 2.0 is its advanced assessment tools, which now include adaptive diagnostics and embedded progress monitoring through student online quizzes, as well as real-time dashboards for teachers. This new version also offers improved IEP integration with the LCE AI Assistant, designed to aid in writing. Furthermore, LCE 2.0 features a Universal Design for Learning (UDL)-based design for enhanced accessibility and robust technology integration, including SIS and district dashboards, as well as embedded professional development resources. These changes make LCE 2.0 suitable for a wider target population and more flexible delivery formats, including individual, small-group, whole-group, remote, and hybrid settings. 

A transition curriculum is a structured program intended to assist students in moving from high school to the next stage of their lives, whether that involves pursuing higher education, vocational training, employment, or independent living. This type of curriculum is particularly crucial for students with disabilities, as it provides tailored instruction and experiences that promote self-sufficiency and confidence. However, a transition curriculum is beneficial for all students, offering guidance in essential life skills that are often not addressed in traditional coursework. 

A well-thought-out transition curriculum takes into account a student's strengths, challenges, interests, and long-term goals. It encompasses academic instruction, career exploration, independent living skills, social-emotional development, and hands-on experiences. The aim is to equip students with the skills they need to confidently navigate the complexities of adulthood. 

In the United States, transition planning is a federally mandated component of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Schools are required to begin formal transition planning by the time a student turns 16, although earlier planning is encouraged. This process involves the student, family, teachers, and other professionals working together to create a roadmap for life after high school.

LCE 2.0 is intended for all age and grade levels regardless of disability severity or involvement. It includes lessons at increasing levels of complexity. Suggestions for differentiated instruction, including modifications and accommodations, are included in the lesson plans. 

Yes! LCE 2.0 could be integrated into existing courses or offered as a self-standing elective or independent study course. For example, lessons on personal finance could be taught in math or economics, and lessons on voting could be taught within government or social studies. 

Lessons are meant to be teacher-led and require no reading from students. Worksheets can be read aloud by the teacher or other peers, and test items include audio feedback, eliminating the need for reading. Two of the three forms of testing require demonstration of mastery, not reading.  

All you need is a computer and a web browser. The LCE 2.0 portal works best with Internet Explorer 8 and above, as well as the latest versions of Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. The test item audio playback function can be accessed from most browsers. LCE is also accessible on mobile tablets.
