Parthenia Cogdell has dedicated her career to the advancement of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), demonstrating exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the organization's mission. Her contributions span decades, shaping CEC’s policies, leadership structure, and advocacy efforts. Through her sustained service, Parthenia played a crucial role in fostering a more inclusive and diverse organization that prioritizes equity in special education.

A longtime CEC leader, Parthenia was the first CEC president from a diverse cultural background (1978-1979). She has held leadership positions at the unit (New Jersey) and division (DLL) levels. She served as CEC governor-at-large, Executive Committee member, and contributed to the Foundation for Exceptional Children Board of Directors.

Parthenia has been and continues to be a role model and mentor for emerging leaders, emphasizing the importance of representation and accessibility within the organization. Her advocacy has ensured that CEC embraces members of all cultural and linguistic backgrounds, encouraging broader participation in leadership and committee roles.

For her lifelong dedication and impact, the Division of Leaders and Legacy proudly nominated Parthenia Cogdell for recognition. Her enduring contributions to CEC and the field of special education continue to inspire educators, leaders, and advocates committed to equity and excellence for all students.
