Lessons Learned
- In contexts of crisis, children with disabilities are less likely to go to school/have access to schooling than students without disabilities. And girls with disabilities are perhaps the most vulnerable to interrupted schooling in contexts of crisis.
- All students can benefit when teachers thoughtfully incorporate trauma-sensitive practices into their pedagogy and practice.
- Teachers are particularly susceptible to secondary/vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout, especially when working with students who come from trauma backgrounds. They need support and knowledge regarding identifying, accepting, and protecting themselves, so they can better support their own students.
