President Biden Issues Proclamation Regarding ADA

In honoring the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, President Biden issued a proclamation emphasizing the importance of the ADA, his role as a co-sponsor of the bill while he served in the U.S. Senate, the progress made to date, and the need for further work. The President pointed to actions the Administration has taken recently in continued support of people with disabilities, including providing $3 billion in the American Rescue Plan for disabled students to “receive equitable, high-quality, and inclusive services.” The Administration also recognizes the negative effects of the pandemic on Americans with disabilities, due especially to the disproportionate impact of remote learning and the creation of new, COVID related disabilities. Biden called on the country to “renew our commitment to achieving the ADA’s full promise of advancing disability equity, dignity, access, and inclusion.”
