President Biden Directs States to Make Educators Eligible for the COVID-19 Vaccine

On Tuesday, President Biden announced a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) directive that requires states to make educators immediately eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination, with the goal of every educator, school staff member, and childcare worker receiving at least one dose of the vaccine by the end of March. 

The directive, which has already resulted in action in several states, is intended to ramp up the Administration’s goal of in-person learning for most students within the first 100 days of the Biden presidency.

Apart from the federal vaccination effort, the U.S. Department of Education is considering appointing someone to oversee reopening, formulating a road map for school districts, and mandating national level data collection to track school closures and re-openings.
