OSEP Hosts Attract, Prepare, Retain Summit
This week, the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) within the U.S. Department of Education held a three-day summit focusing on the special educator pipeline. Panels of practitioners, researchers, and experts gathered virtually to discuss strategies for attracting, preparing, and retaining effective personnel to provide effective instruction, interventions, supports, and services to students with disabilities.
OSEP Director Laurie VanderPloeg ended the summit by noting that attracting, preparing, and retaining educators is not “for schools and districts to solve on their own- they require a collaborative approach.” She noted that OSEP will continue to engage through focus groups and a newly launched resource page in conjunction with the summit, which can be accessed here.
