OSEP Highlights IDEA Data Changes

The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) will implement several changes to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Section 618 Part C Data Collections. These changes, approved by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), will be implemented starting with the 2023–24 Part C Section 618 Data submission. They include: (1) addition of a meta-data question requiring states to annually report the permitted values used for reporting gender in the Part C Child Count and Settings Data Collection; (2) minor technical edits to the definition of community-based settings in the Part C Child Count and Settings Data Collection; and (3) the introduction of a new meta-data question within the Exit at Age Three – Part B eligibility not determined section. This question asks states to list the categories (excluding specific categories) used to collect data on children who reached age 3, whose Part B eligibility was not determined or reported during the reporting period. It's also important to note that no changes were made to the Part C Dispute Resolution Data Collection.
