Official Election Results Remain a Waiting Game

After a long week of nail-biting, elections results continue to trickle in and the presidential election remains uncalled, with former Vice President Joe Biden currently in the lead. It could still be days until a winner is declared, and weeks before all election results are certified.

Uncertainty looms over the Senate as well, where Sens. David Perdue (R-GA) and Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) may need to defend their seats in a January runoff election if they fail to get 50 percent of the vote in Georgia. Republicans will need at least one candidate to be victorious in the runoff to maintain their Senate majority; Democrats will need both incumbents to lose for the Senate to be evenly divided. It appears likely that the House of Representatives will remain under Democratic leadership next year, with Democrats likely holding on to their majority but losing some seats.

Committee changes in the House and Senate will roll out in the coming weeks and months. The education field has its eyes on who will take over the helm of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee for retiring Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN).
