New Education COVID Stimulus Funds Available to States
Late last week, the U.S. Department of Education announced the immediate availability of $54.3 billion in new funding to states and districts to support reopening K-12 schools, facilitate continuity of learning, and measure and address the learning loss brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds were authorized by Congress in December through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act. The newly available funds equate to more than four times the $13 million in assistance funding provided last spring under the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
