NASP Releases Third Edition of “Ready to Learn, Empowered to Teach” Brief

The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) published its 3rd edition of the “Ready to Learn, Empowered to Teach” brief that outlines the seven key principles critical to an effective public education system. These key principles are accompanied by corresponding policy recommendations to ensure the comprehensive needs of all students are being met by the public education system.
Specifically, these principles and recommendations aim to improve educational outcomes and address issues of inequity in education. The seven guiding principles are:
- Identify and modify existing school structures that lead to inequity
- Combine high expectations for students with culturally responsive, high-quality instruction
- Create physical and psychological safety within positive school climates
- Provide mental and behavioral health services
- Increase family and community engagement
- Recruit and retain diverse, prepared professionals
- Create a comprehensive accountability system for understanding and improvement
