To commemorate our 100th anniversary, CEC highlighted exceptional special education teachers around the country. But only one outstanding educator receives the coveted CEC National Teacher of the Year Award. Our 2022 CEC Teacher of the Year, Kevin Crosby, was a phenomenal educator who dedicated his life to his students and the profession. Sadly, Kevin passed away on October 4th. CEC was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. Kevin was a special education teacher with the Kern High School District. For his dedication and innovation in the classroom, Kevin received 23 grants and was recognized with many awards. Kevin was known to have the best sense of humor, which carried over into his hilarious Halloween costumes. What a teacher!

Our hearts go out to his family and those influenced by his life. To honor his memory, the CEC Board of Directors made a donation in Kevin's name to the CEC Rising Stars Fund*. May his love and passion for teaching be a continued inspiration for all who pursue a career in special education.

*The Rising Stars fund is designed to provide continuing support for efforts and projects that assist educator preparation candidates and early-career professionals.
