Meet the 2022 CEC Professional Award Recipients

Presented at the in-person CEC 2022 Convention & Expo and 100th Anniversary Celebration this January in Orlando, Florida, the CEC Professional Awards recognize special educators who have advanced the field and the quality of special education service, as well as CEC members whose contributions have moved CEC forward in significant ways.

This year, the Council for Exceptional Children recognized the following Professional Award recipients at the CEC 2022 Second General Session on January 17.

2022 Lifetime Achievement Award:

Dr. Kathleen Lane, University of Kansas

CEC was proud to honor Kathleen Lane, Ph.D., a Roy A. Roberts Distinguished Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, for her lifetime of achievement improving outcomes for students with and at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders and the educators who serve them.

2022 Special Education Research Award:

Dr. Charles MacArthur, University of Delaware

CEC was proud to honor Charles MacArthur, Ph.D., professor of special education and literacy in the School of Education at the University of Delaware, for his outstanding research in the areas of writing development and instruction for struggling writers, adult literacy, development of self-regulated strategies, and applications of technology to support reading and writing.

2022 CEC Teacher of the Year:

Kevin Crosby, Kern County High School District

CEC was proud to honor Kevin Crosby, M.A., a special education teacher for grades 9 through 12 with the Alternative Instructional Methods (AIM) Program at Kern High School District in Bakersfield, California, for his outstanding commitment to working with students with exceptionalities and their families.
