LPI Updates State Teacher Shortage Report
The Learning Policy Institute (LPI) has updated its annual report on state teacher shortages, showing that significant shortages persist. Based on the most recent state-reported data, an estimated 387,843 teachers across all 50 states and the District of Columbia were not fully certified for their teaching assignments last school year.
29 states and the District of Columbia reported 37,569 unfilled teaching positions. Together, these figures suggest that at least 425,412 teaching positions nationwide, roughly 1 in 8, were either vacant or staffed by teachers who were not fully certified for their assignments.
The LPI full report includes tables showing each state's status and the number of unfilled positions and of those staffed by uncertified personnel.
