Kimberly Richey Nominated to Head OCR
Kimberly Richey, formerly a senior chancellor in the Florida Department of Education, has been nominated to lead the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). Richey served as the acting head of the OCR during the first Trump Administration. While there, she was influential in defining the Administration’s interpretation of the Supreme Court’s Bostock v. Clayton County ruling. Richey also led the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS). Richey’s policy background has included roles as interim chief advocacy officer at the National School Boards Association and general counsel at the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
