Institute of Education Sciences Director Reflects on Upcoming Research
Last week, Director of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Mark Schneider published a blog detailing the work to be done by the organization in the coming years.
Schneider conveyed several promises and hopes to readers, including a revamping of their “rightfully unloved” website to increase usability, the establishment of a Center for Excellence in Education Data Sciences, and the creation of new programs that effectively utilize Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems data. He also discussed the $100 million in new funding allocated through the American Rescue Plan.
Most importantly, Schneider noted that IES has commissioned the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine to conduct three studies, which he hopes will shape IES’ trajectory in time for their 20th anniversary in 2022. The three reports will focus on updating the research mission of IES, shaping the future of the National Center for Education Statistics, and the modernizing the technology used to administer the Nation’s Report Card.
