House Votes to “Disapprove” the Borrowers Defense Rule

The House voted last week to void the Administration’s final rule on student loan forgiveness.

With a vote of 231-180, the House voted to block the U.S. Department of Education’s rewrite of the Obama-era “borrower defense to repayment” rule. The revised regulations tighten the rules regarding student loan forgiveness and have been under scrutiny, including legal challenges.

The measure now heads to the Senate, where Democrats plan to force a vote. The White House has indicated the measure will be vetoed by the president.
