ED Issues Updated Assistive Technology Guidance

To accompany the 2024 National Educational Technology Plan (NETP), the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational Technology and the Office of Special Education Programs have issued guidance for how to support children with disabilities who utilize assistive technology (AT) devices for engagement in learning. The guidance, entitled Myths and Facts Surrounding Assistive Technology Devices and Services, dispels common misconceptions and highlights the requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Parts B and C. Written for a wide range of stakeholders, the document is broken into five parts: Assistive Technology Requirements Under Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Common Myths and Facts about Assistive Technology Devices and Services, Common Myths and Facts about Deploying Assistive Technology Devices and Services, Assistive Technology Requirements Under Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education, and Common Myths and Facts about Assistive Technology Costs and Funding Sources.
