Department of Education Releases State Plans For Use of K-12 ARPA Funds

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) posted proposed plans submitted by 28 states for how they intend to use funding through the American Rescue Plan Act’s Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief fund.

The $122 billion in funding, distributed to states through the Title I formula, comes with considerable flexibility. The law is intended to support the continued safe reopening of schools, addressing learning loss, and supporting the social, emotional, mental, and academic needs of students, including students with disabilities.

Equity has emerged as the top priority for ED, which has pledged to work with states to tackle inequities that predate, but have been amplified by, the pandemic.
