Bipartisan, Bicameral Group of Lawmakers Support Emergency Broadband Funding
As schools continue to serve students remotely and encounter the many untested complexities that accompany that endeavor, access to broadband is a critical component of reaching all students.
Legislators from both the House and Senate sent a letter to congressional leaders urging them to provide support for rural broadband relief so that small internet carriers can sustain services and upgrades for schools and families in low-income areas. School closures and the surge in unemployment have left many students, particularly those from low-income families, without critical internet connectivity.
The legislators are asking that the next relief package include the Keeping Critical Connections Act, which provides funding for a temporary emergency relief fund at the Federal Communications Commission to help small broadband providers continue these critical services for students and low-income families throughout the pandemic.
