Biden Names New Deputy Secretary of Education

This week, the Biden Administration announced an additional key player in the Department of Education. Cindy Marten has been nominated to serve as Deputy Secretary of Education after a 32-year career as superintendent, principal, vice principal, literary specialist, and classroom educator.

Cindy Marten was unanimously elected by the Board of Education to serve as Superintendent of the San Diego Unified School District in 2013 and was named a 2018 Business Woman of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal. She has been the recipient of several awards and is hailed for the successful implementation of programs such as the California Vision 2020 program, under which the district achieved the highest graduation rate among big-city districts in California.
