On Friday afternoon, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) issued a call for peer reviewers for the Fiscal Year 2022 discretionary grant competition for the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program. The grant program is the only federal program dedicated to gifted and talented education. Its purpose is to support evidence-based research and demonstration projects to build capacity to identify and support gifted and talented students and to close equity gaps.

ED notes, “The major emphasis of the program is on serving students traditionally underrepresented in gifted and talented programs (particularly economically disadvantaged, limited English proficient (LEP), and disabled students) to help reduce the serious gap in achievement among certain groups of students at the highest levels of achievement.”

The call for reviewers specifically seeks out professionals with expertise in gifted and talented students from traditionally underrepresented populations as noted above.
