Bipartisan, Bicameral Bill Would Increase Funding for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities

This week, Representatives DeSaulnier (D-CA), Davis (R-IL), Huffman (R-CA), and Senator Hassan (D-NH) introduced a bicameral, bipartisan bill in support of infants and toddlers with disabilities. The Funding Early Childhood Is the Right IDEA Act would authorize increased funding for education and early intervention services covered under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The bill would increase funding over the next decade to arrive at a level where it would be considered fully funded for programs and services under IDEA Part B, section 619 and Part C.

“Federal support for these programs has not matched the growth in need, leaving them woefully underfunded,” said bill sponsor Rodney Davis (R-IL). This legislation would help match the high demand for these programs with the proper federal funding levels.

The Division for Early Childhood is a leading voice in support of this legislation, and CEC and many additional Divisions endorsed the bill along with more than 60 additional organizations.
