U.S. Education Department to Examine Federal Education Spending in 400 Districts

Last week, the U.S. Department of Education announced that it will evaluate how states are spending some of the largest pots of federal money at elementary and high schools across the country.

The Study of District and School Uses of Federal Education Funds is the first examination of federal spending in nearly a decade. It will look at how schools are spending Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESSA) Titles I Part A; II Part A; III Part A; IV Part A; and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Title I Part B. The study will collect detailed information from 400 school districts that make up a nationally representative sample. Information will include budgets, plans, spending data, and personnel and payroll information. Data collection could begin as early as May 2020.
