This week, CEC President Danielle M. Kovach, Ed.D sent a letter to appropriators requesting increased funding in Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 for programs that support infants, toddler, children, and youth with disabilities and/or gifts and talents and the educators who serve them. The letter requests increased funding for programs within the Individuals with Disabilities Act, the Javits Gifted and Talented grant program, the National Center for Special Education Research, and a new proposed funding stream to increase school-based health professionals, including school psychologists, school counselors, and school social workers. “A healthy federal investment in programs and the personnel that support students with disabilities and/or gifts and talents is critical to ensuring these infants, toddlers, children, and youth thrive in school and beyond,” remarked Kovach. The letter goes to Capitol Hill as lawmakers have begun receiving input from Members of Congress and conducting oversight hearings from the Biden Administration about its FY 2023 budget proposal.
