CEC Announces Dr. Julie Bost as 2024 President-Elect
Arlington, Va. ― The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is pleased to announce Dr. Julie Irene Bost, has been named 2024 CEC President-Elect. Dr. Bost will assume the presidency on January 1, 2025, overseeing CEC’s committees and Board of Directors and providing critical leadership on the organization’s planning and programs.
“It is an honor to be chosen to serve as CEC President and give back to an organization that has given me so much. I cannot imagine my 25-year career in special education without the support, resources, and network that CEC has provided me,” says Bost.
Dr. Julie Bost is a leader in the field of special education and a longstanding member of CEC. She has served as President of the North Carolina Council for Exceptional Children, is a National Board Certified Teacher, and was the ARC of Stanly County Teacher of the Year. Dr. Bost has also served for over ten years on the CASE Executive Board as Membership Chair and as the current Research Committee Chair. She also serves on CEC’s Finance Committee and the Student Teacher Support Network.
During her term, Dr. Bost plans to support local units and student CEC chapters to help facilitate growth and ensure special education professionals feel connected, supported, and engaged at the local level and around the globe.
Dr. Bost is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Program Coordinator for the Department of Specialized Education Services at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In this role, she coordinates the special education programs, teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses, and supervises student teachers. Dr. Bost has twenty years of experience in public education including that of program administrator and special education teacher. She has presented throughout the country on various topics, including co-teaching, IEPs, culturally responsive teaching, transition planning, and positive behavior strategies and supports.

Dr. Julie Bost’s Short Bio
Dr. Julie Irene Bost is an Assistant Clinical Professor and Program Coordinator for the Department of Specialized Education Services at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In this role, she coordinates the special education programs, teaches undergraduate and graduate level courses, and supervises student teachers. Previously, she was a Program Specialist for Exceptional Children for the Alamance-Burlington School System in North Carolina where she supervised and supported special education programming in the district’s western zone. Julie’s twenty years of experience in public education also includes that of teacher of students with exceptionalities in both special education and general education classrooms in grades K-12. She earned her M.Ed. in Special Education in 2003, her National Board Certification in 2005, and her Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations in 2015. Julie currently serves as Research Liaison for the Council of Administrators of Special Education (CASE). She also serves on CEC’s Finance Committee and the Student Teacher Support Network. She is a Past-President of NC-CEC and a former member of the CEC Board of Directors. Julie has presented at numerous national and state conferences on various topics within the field of education including co-teaching, inclusive schooling, legal issues, IEPs, culturally responsive teaching, transition planning, and positive behavior strategies and supports.
