Messiah University is a nationally ranked university that integrates quality academics and Christian faith. The integration of faith and learning, particularly as it relates to issues of justice, reconciliation and the dignity of all people, is evident in the program. Faculty are experienced educators and accomplished scholars who encourage and mentor students in their faith and career.

Messiah’s program is designed to develop effective and compassionate educators. More than that, it prepares teachers to be leaders and collaborators who are ready to work with students, their families and other educational professionals.

M.Ed. degree tracks
Graduate students can earn an M.Ed. with a focus on curriculum and instruction; special education; teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL); teaching language and content; or online instruction. Messiah also offers M.Ed. options with initial teacher certification (PK-4, 7-12, PK-12 and special education PK-12). The timeframe for completion is two to six years.

Nondegree options
Messiah’s program has graduate certificates and PDE endorsements and certifications, including teacher certification in grades PK-4, 7-12, PK-12 and special education in grades PK-12. Other focus areas are autism spectrum disorders, exceptional children and youth, TESOL, online instruction, social emotional and behavioral wellness, skills for teacher leaders, STEM and English as a second language. Some certificates can be completed in less than a year.

The majority of courses are online, so students are free to pursue their career and degree at the same time. Graduate program applications are accepted year-round, and there are program entry points throughout the year.
