Dear CEC Community,

Coming off the success of our first virtual convention in March, we wanted to give you an update on the next CEC Convention & Expo.

As of today, we are planning for an in-person convention in Orlando in January 2022—and not just a convention, but a celebration of CEC’s 100th Anniversary! In addition to all you expect from the CEC Convention & Expo, we will be adding several events to celebrate our 100th year and look ahead to the next century of success.

We are aware that there are still many unknowns in the world related to COVID-19. However, with multiple vaccines available and nine months’ time to prepare, we fully anticipate being able to hold an in-person event. Our team is closely monitoring the CDC recommendations and working with our venue, the Marriott World Center, to adapt best practices to ensure safety according to national, state, and venue protocols. Attendees at the event will be expected to follow appropriate protocols relevant in January, which may include wearing masks, social distancing, taking temperatures, etc. Our staff will also be taking all the necessary precautions to keep everyone as safe and comfortable as possible, including adapting the schedule to allow for room cleaning, modifying meeting room setups, adjusting the Expo Hall layout, and more.

While we are planning an in-person event, we also understand that many of our members may still feel uneasy about traveling. In addition, some of you may be looking at travel restrictions related to COVID, budgets, staffing, and the many other challenges facing our community due to the pandemic. For that reason, we will be adding on a virtual component following the in-person event, with much of the program being provided both in-person and virtually. We will take the lessons learned from CEC L.I.V.E. to make the virtual experience just as great in 2022.

The in-person convention will take place on January 16-19, 2022, and the virtual program will be held soon after. In-person attendees will have full access to the virtual content as well, and we are adding new programming types to the in-person event that will offer more engaging learning formats and opportunities for attendees. To help accommodate the change in programming, we are delaying the Call for Proposals a few weeks. Information on the Call for Proposals will go out via email once it is available.

With the last 15 months turning our world upside down, it feels great to be planning to be in person again. We hope you will start making your plans now to join us in Orlando and that you’ll bring along your colleagues. And if you are looking to spend some downtime in the sun, we hope you’ll consider coming early or staying late--you deserve it! Registration and hotel reservations will open in May.

We look forward to seeing you in January in Orlando!
