Students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have more opportunities to go to college than ever before. Opportunities for inclusive postsecondary education can now be found in almost every state across the United States. However, given the recent emergence of college as a viable option for students with IDD, special educators may not feel adequately prepared to support students in pursuing postsecondary education. This article introduces the topic of inclusive postsecondary education, and provides the following tips for teachers to support students with IDD to achieve their college goals: (a) provide families with information and resources; (b) encourage student participation in their transition planning; (c) teach self-advocacy, navigation, and safety skills; and (d) help students transition to the college environment.
