Take Action: Biden Administration’s Full Budget Expected This Month

On Thursday, the Biden Administration announced that the full budget request for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 will be sent to Congress on May 27.

A top-line budget request, unveiled last month, included a 41 percent increase for the U.S. Department of Education and put the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) grants to states on a glidepath to full funding. The fleshed-out budget request will include programmatic details for all Department of Education programs, including the full suite of IDEA programs and the Javits Gifted and Talented grants program.

In a typical year, the President’s budget request is submitted to Congress in February; but in the first year of a new Administration, that request is typically delayed. The House of Representatives has examined the top-line budget request and begun drafting spending bills, while the Senate’s process is delayed and will likely take into account the full budget request.
