New Report Shares Best Practices for Sustaining Social and Emotional Learning in Schools
This week, the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), a non-profit specializing in social and emotional learning (SEL), published a report sharing insights from their Collaborating Districts Initiative (CDI) on sustaining SEL practices in schools.
CDI, launched in 2011, convened 20 large, urban school districts to assess the possibility of a systematic implementation of SEL. Ten years after CDI’s inception, CASEL’s report shares six key insights to long term sustainability of SEL practices. Included in the best practices are recommendations that SEL becomes a priority for top district officials and a shared goal across departments and roles.
CASEL also suggests districts provide guidance while allowing schools to modify practices according to their own needs and that parents and community partners be invested in SEL implementation.
