NCLD and NASP Release New Report on Evaluating Specific Learning Disabilities During COVID-19

This week, the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) published a new resource, “Navigating Special Education Evaluations for Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

This report was curated to assist states and districts as they adapt to schooling under the pandemic, as schools are now struggling to appropriately evaluate students’ eligibility for special education.

The report identifies several factors that have exacerbated this difficulty, including lack of in-person instruction, the difficulty of assessing through online mediums, and an increase of referrals for academic, mental, and behavioral health interventions. It aims to guide states and districts so that students attain timely, appropriate, and thorough evaluations to accurately assess their educational needs.
