Department of Education to Launch New Early Childhood Longitudinal Study

The U.S Department of Education’s National Center for Education statistics is gearing up to begin its “Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 2022-2023” (ECLS-K:2023). The study will collect data from children along with their parents, teachers, and school administrators from the spring of 2022 through the spring of 2028. The goal of the study is to gather longitudinal information on children’s experiences in the early grades, including data on children’s early learning and development, transition into kindergarten, and experiences in the elementary grades.

Why this matters to CEC members: The data collection is intended to inform educators, policymakers, and families about early childhood education. It can be used to inform classroom practices or as a tool to support policy and advocacy positions to improve the public education system.
